Direct Support Professional
As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll play an important role in helping adults with developmental disabilities live safely and independently in their own homes and communities. You’ll provide personalized care and daily living support to the individuals in your care.
Job Responsibilities
Provide compassionate, person-centered support to help individuals live safely and independently.
Assist with daily living needs, personal care, and health routines.
Help with household tasks such as cleaning, meals, and errands.
Support participation in community activities, appointments, and social events.
Communicate openly with families, team members, and care professionals.
Maintain accurate records and report changes in health or behavior.
Assess individual strengths, needs, and goals to create personalized training plans.
Teach practical life skills including cooking, budgeting, transportation, personal care, and home management.
Provide hands-on coaching that builds confidence, problem-solving, and self-reliance.
Support community participation and social skill development in real-world settings.
Maintain accurate progress records and communicate regularly with families and team members.
Collaborate with case managers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure coordinated support.
What We’re Looking For
Kind, patient, and dependable individuals with strong integrity and a caring attitude
Basic English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking)
Prior experience assisting or caring for others—whether professionally or through personal or family caregiving
Requirements for Employment
A valid driver’s license and current auto insurance (if driving is part of the role)
Successful completion of a drug test, TB screening, and Department of Justice background check
Willingness to complete CPR and First Aid certification (training provided and paid for by ILCS)
